A Poet's in the Corner: Intermission

In the spirit of renewal
I am drawn to your inner beast like a moth to a flame
Lit for my discovery
The reverie in me spoke so deeply that I took leaps

Leaps and bounds, salacious sounds, and mounds

Pleasure is heavy
But this reservation is just for two

Me and you in a unlit room for a rendezvous

No words, just listen
Don't speak as sweet as she sang it
I'm not the doppelgänger that was planted
So let's slip away and slip into danger

Into satin robes and sheets the color of dried blood
Let's run until we touch the sun

Touch hands, romance, and dance
Until we slip back into a world filled with demands
Continue to save that last dance, for me.

A Poet's In the Corner: The Never-Ending Story

If your tongue could flick my ear lobe
As gently as the leaves tickled the sky in an autumn breeze
Then we’d really have something here
We’d have something clear

Something undefined
So mine
Legs intertwined
And curved spines
Fine wines

Smoke laced
Paper chase
Eyes grace
Divine grace

Short skirts
Truth hurts
Spandex slides
Love forgives
But can love live?

Can they forgive?
Can they forget?
Is that regret?
Oh, we met

Again and again
An old friend
But a God send
We mend
The broken hearts

Shattered into smithereens
No spleens
Splenectomy
You got next to me
You’re testing me

My patience
Your waist’s bent
Temptation
Hesitations

Full thoughts
Full-bodied
Full voices
Moans
Groans
Student loans
Alone
Never

We’re always together
Are we?
I don’t know
We grow
Separately
Into infinity

Again undefined
Intertwined
Be mine
You’re fine
I’m fine

We start over
Grow older
Grow smarter
Long harder
Check departures

Travel
Unravel
At the seams
Have long never-ending dreams
Screams
Creams

Body lotions
Scented
With ravenous fragrances
Not sure what you’re aiming at
It’s aimless

Things, changes
Short-changing
Deranging
Strange-ing
This never-ending bullet

Confused
Misused
Abused
A muse
You lose
I win

And this is where another story can begin.

A Poet's in the Corner: Signs of Fall-ing

I can’t keep living in love’s dark forlorn shadow
Cast over by evergreen trees
And leaves tipped by the colors of autumn

I keep building this glass house with silica sand
That keeps blowing away
With the signs of your resentment

I can’t keep chasing these broken dreams with band-aids
I can’t keep these scars from bleeding without stitches

I cannot stop laughing at my stupidity
Searching in your eyes for my own validity

Pleading temporary insanity
Profanity, used heavily

I’m wealthy
Wealthy with love, and laughter, and light

A light that I will shine for the world to see

Casting out those dark, forlorn, bleak, but mystical shadows
Creeping upon the enemy

Freeing us from this cell we call the Earth
In this prison of Love

It must be abandoned
It must be castigated
Never placated

Romantically involved with the sun
The moon
The stars

Our hearts never reaching
Merely skimming the surface

Enhanced purpose
They’re just jerks to us

Oh, that’s you my friend
It’s you again?

Remove your fetal tendencies from the corners of my mind
Decline the wino’s crutch

You cry too much
Despair too much
Care too much
Grow your hair too much

Leave the leaves sun-tipped in empathy
You’re like kin to me
A sweet sin to me

My most-feared enemy
But again I see
This is the end to me.

It's Like Poetry: Waiting to Exhale...

A response to Virgin Fingertips twelve little words...

Day 9- Quickly jot down four verbs, four adjectives, and four nouns. Write a poem using all 12 words.
sweat, run, act, care
intelligently, lovingly, sassy, sexy
spider, polish, electricity, children

As the sweat dripped down my sloping forehead,
I decided to run to a place where I didn't care anymore.

A place filled with dreams and unfulfilled destinies and sweet, darling fantasies.

I was there.
And you were there, dancing lovingly on clouds full of dark black smoke in a sparkly star-tinged sky.

It was sexy to me.
The air I breathed, it was sexy to me.

And as I grazed my head upon the mountain's bosom, I sighed a sigh of relief because I know no one's listening that I don't want to.

And as my body fills with violent electricity, I polish that darkened sky red.
I make those smoky clouds blue, because that reminds me of you.

Then I remember how it felt when we were children, so carefree, and I remember this place.

So striking against a star-spangled memory.

And I exhale, a breath that comes from the depths of me.
So sassy, and simple, and sweet, just like me.

And when I walked out of there I decided to act more intelligently than before,
So I crawled out the rabbit hole with the grace of a spider.

Write Byte: Light Up

I lost the backs of my earrings.
So I had to create a temporary connection that might not have been strong enough,
Last long enough.
To withstand time's many tests.

Build a bridge to get over those troubled waters.
Put a period to the quest.

Dismissing all practical thoughts and aptitudes.
Putting a soothing quality on my dampered mood.

I lie awake at night and think of this,
The way I dismiss, diss, and, place bliss on things that are only temporary.

Quite to the contrary my dear,
It's queer the things we hold dear.

Expect things of the masses that are only half-asses to last.

So I just laugh, love, and try harder.
Be smarter and a bit of a stuff starter.

Educate and illuminate new possibilities,
Like those created by the Almighty.

But until I have new motivation inside of me,
I'm just glad I can wear these earrings.

A Poet's in the Corner: Case of the Next

He kept forcing me to listen to why I need to be different,
Without my consent.
And instead of considering the stupidity of what his words meant,
My soul literally bent.

I kept thinking his love was heaven sent
Part of the plan
I took his words as gold and hung on every one
Because he was my man

And I sit back and think I was a stupid girl
Trapped in a parallel reality

Because when I look into the mirror and analyze what I see
That old reflection, it was never really me

But I keep sojourning for the truth
Hoping I left some things with my youth
But, was it that that old reflection wasn't me,
Or just a spoof?

I was trying to be me for him, but not me for me
Trying to fulfill every man I met's fantasies and not being me complete

And I think it was the relationship with my dad that lead to this path
Because even though I never use him as an excuse, I did the math

When you never feel like you're enough and meet some man,
And he's tells you your beautiful, it sounds so grand

And the relationship you had with that other man, the one who played a part in birth
Never did anything but make you feel like sh*t and never showed your worth

And you can't tell if that "sh*t" was an open cry
For someone to help him retrieve the life he had in the midst of that life's goodbye

So you give him the benefit
You love him, he's gone, that's the end if it

But his legacy is tarnished
Unless you add some garnish

And you hope you never get treated that way again because that's over
To find a man that will lift you up and hold you

Instead your just a girl trapped into a bullsh*t cycle
His name was Explain but his name was still Michael, my father

And you couldn't even find a man with his good qualities
Instead a caricature of what you thought you've seen

And I'm not writing this poem to be mean,
I'm just saying I now realize when I've found a king for this queen.

Write Byte: Poetry

I'm sick of the game (3x),
Some people play as poets.

Because Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou,
Didn't mimic another poet's attitude.

They had a heap of their own soul.

And they had no other cadence
To fall upon.
Their linguistic anomalies,
Could single-handedly bring all to their their knees.

And whether it was soliloquy or haiku,
Poetry wouldn't be poetry without you.

And you inspire me
Yes, you really do.

Because like Patti said,
"I got a new attitude."

A Poet's in the Corner: Forever Untitled

I think he wanted to fall into me.

But I was scared.
I was hurt.
We were wronged.

Our spirits too short,
And our love so long.

Words said but everything left unspoken.
What a big joke we were to each other.

Each other's court jester.
A pest or a pester.
Each time we died, it was together,
But those things never measured forever.

Obliterated us, into the smallest unspecialized organs,
Past any dissection.

Even with all our affections,
We got so small, neither of us recognized it.

We did our own stunts.
Blew into smithereens of our former selves.

No padding. No protection.
We were destroyed beyond help.

Irrepaired. Irreconcilable differences.

We separated.
Now everything is different.

We were mesmerized.
And now all that was left slowly ceases to exist.

To Be In Love

(This is the perfect first response to the Google search: "To be in love")

To be in love

Is to touch with a lighter hand.

In yourself you stretch, you are well.

You look at things

Through his eyes.

A cardinal is red.

A sky is blue.

Suddenly you know he knows too.

He is not there but

You know you are tasting together

The winter, or a light spring weather.

His hand to take your hand is overmuch.

Too much to bear.

You cannot look in his eyes

Because your pulse must not say

What must not be said.

When he

Shuts a door

Is not there

Your arms are water.

And you are free

With a ghastly freedom.

You are the beautiful half

Of a golden hurt.

You remember and covet his mouth

To touch, to whisper on.

Oh when to declare

Is certain Death!

Oh when to apprize

Is to mesmerize,

To see fall down, the Column of Gold,

Into the commonest ash.

Write Byte: They call me Jill Scott...

Isn't it ironic?
My new label has been afrocentric.
But the afro isn't my centrality.

I have dichotic personality dualities.
With curves that speak sexuality
And lips that sing symphonies.

Mystically, weaving the natural instincts never spoken to me.
Coached relentlessly in this game called life.

Despite of every stumble I survive.

But what is a life in a lie?

Projection is half my battle.
But my representation hasn't been perfected.

Yes its all natural.
Naturally I believe
But I'm not Jill Scott.

India Arie maybe, because "I Am Not My Hair".

Write Byte: King of Sorrow

The plot thickens in the night,
Because in the daytime
He is the light.

Write Byte: Heart Strings

Panoramic views
Dark night skies
Whispers of a night breeze

Can you feel it?

It's calling from deep within the night
At the pitch of a dog's whistle
If you breath in deep, you'll miss it

Then in the morning it's
Jumping out the sun
And the stems of roses

A child's laughter
A mother's child
Matrimony

It's love.

A Poet's in the Corner: Intelligence, pt. #2

If I could swim in an ocean of intellect
I'd be so turned on
I'd electrify
Be a constant energy source for charged-up onlookers

Hair-raising, frizzy, frying, personified humidity

Lightning striking down on society

Spitting words like a crazed rapper tells stories
Of grandeur, and glitz, and glamour

I love to fashion my intellect

Sport it in writing

"Can I get that in writing?"

Express that to me.
Verbally or non-verbally.

Educate.
Influence.
Ignorance isn't ever bliss.

Elaborate.

I knew that.
"Oh really?"

Believe me.
I'm more than serious about this.

A Poet's in the Corner: The Room

Darkened by silence
Swallowed by silence
Ingested
Engulfed
Consumed
Deafeningly loud
I can't speak in it
Or relay sound against sturdy walls
Reverberate
Multiply
And die
Relate
Those sounds
So luscious and full
That they satiate me
My satiety
So hungry
I wipe my plate clean
Touch to the tip of my tongue
Flavor deep
Complex
Ridiculous
Intangible thoughts
Nuclear explosions
Full
Laughter
Embarrassment
Collapse back into silence
Drink a cup of it
Delicious

Case of the Ex

Lurking in the shadows
What kind of apparition is this?
Keep covering me in sheets
Lying on my back
Writhing like a fetus
Feeling crazy
For you, baby
I'm crazy as hell
Thinking about you
Never thinking about you
Losing you
Losing me
Instantly
Divided by
Two and two, too
One
Because I know I never
Needed you anyway
